PGA Statement on the Situation in Senegal

PGA continues to be increasingly alarmed by the volatile situation in Senegal. Recognizing that peaceful means are the best for solving electoral grievances, PGA supports the expressions of concern by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. N. Pillay, yesterday and today, and similarly calls for calm and restraint on the part of all.

PGA expresses its solidarity with the PGA National Group in the Parliament in Dakar, and with all of the people of Senegal, at this difficult and tense time and hopes that a prompt and decisive way may be found to halt any further downward spiral into violence.
