Depuis 1996, PGA octroie un Prix du Défenseur de la démocratie à l’occasion de son Forum annuel. Ce prix a pour objectif d’honorer des individus qui ont fait preuve d’un engagement exceptionnel et contribué à la promotion de la paix, le renforcement de la démocratie et des pratiques démocratiques, l’Etat de droit, les droits humains, la non-discrimination et/ou la parité. Leurs actions doivent correspondre à la vision de PGA, c’est-à-dire « contribuer à la création d’un ordre international basé sur l’Etat de droit pour un monde plus juste, sûr et démocratique. »
