A GLOBAL MOVEMENT OF LEGISLATORS

In parliaments around the world, legislators who share a commitment to human rights, democracy, peace and justice too often find themselves standing alone, separated by geography and political context.

Parliamentarians for Global Action exists to change that. We are a non-governmental, multi-party network of legislators from all regions of the world, acting in their individual capacity to advance human rights, democracy, and the rule of law; peace and human security; gender equality and inclusion; protection of the environment; and justice in all its forms.

We understand that when legislators work together — sharing knowledge, amplifying each other's efforts, and uniting their voices to counter narratives that threaten society and the rule of law — they become part of something larger than themselves: a global movement for democratic governance and a thriving human society.

TOGETHER IN THIS MOMENT

In an era of rising authoritarianism and polarization across the globe, when human rights are under assault, human dignity is being undermined, and global peace and security is under siege, the world's elected representatives of the people cannot afford to stand alone.

The defining challenges of our time cross every border. The solutions must, too. As the democratic branch closest to the people, parliamentarians are uniquely positioned to defend what must be protected and build what must emerge. Together.

Membership is open to elected legislators from national, regional, and local parliaments worldwide. FIVE DECADES OF IMPACT

In 1978, in the shadow of the Cold War, a group of concerned parliamentarians came together in Washington, D.C. with a radical idea: that legislators could reach across borders and party lines to act on global problems that no single government could solve alone. Five decades later, that founding conviction still defines us.

  1. A network of legislators who represent a broad spectrum of political parties, ideologies, geographies, genders, ethnicities, and interests
  2. Governed by legislators themselves, with expert support from a secretariat in New York and The Hague
  3. Decades of success turning global diplomacy into ratified treaties and groundbreaking national and international laws

MPs SHAPE THE FUTURE

Now more than ever, the world needs members of parliament who will defend democracy at home, champion cooperation across borders, and model the dialogue that builds bridges rather than walls. That’s why we are calling on parliamentarians from all corners of the globe who believe in the promise of democracy, the call for justice, and the right to freedom that is inherent to humanity to join us and commit to the following activities and practices:

  1. Defend democracy at home — protecting judicial independence, civic space, electoral integrity, and civil and political rights
  2. Champion international cooperation — advancing frameworks that protect people and planet, from climate justice and ocean protection to international justice and responsible AI governance
  3. Prioritize dialogue and solidarity — modeling bridge-building, standing with parliamentarians under threat, and forming cross-party coalitions focused on solutions
