As part of our advocacy actions to raise awareness about women’s rights, the Congress of Argentina has issued a Declaration of Interest to give visibility to the Campaign against Sexism, harassment and violence against women in Parliaments #NotInMyParliament.

This Campaign emerged from the results of a study about acts of sexism, abuse and violence against women in parliaments in Europe presented in October 2018 by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

While the study shows only a small data sample in European parliaments, sexism, harassment and violence against women exist in all parliaments around the world.

Therefore, Diputada Carla Pitiot from Argentina and a PGA Board member decided to mobilize her colleagues and issue a Declaration of Interest from the Congress of Argentina calling for the enforcement of laws and regulations that ensure parity between men and women parliamentarians and protections for women against violence, prejudice and discriminatory conduct.

The Declaration also shares best practices undertaken in Argentina on this issue such as the Law of Parity 50/50 women and men legislators and the Law Micaela for the comprehensive protection to prevent, punish and eradicate violence against women.
