In his statement, Hon. Ali Ehsassi, MP says:

I welcome the recent Royal Assent to the Act to amend the Export and Import Permits Act and the Criminal Code (amendments permitting the accession to the Arms Trade Treaty and other amendments). The government of Canada in 2015 pledged to accede to the Arms Trade Treaty and the importance of the international convention cannot be overstated. The Treaty regulates the international trade of arms, so they are not used to support terrorism, international organized crime, gender-based violence, human rights abuses, or violations of international humanitarian law.
