PGA’s International Peace and Security Program (IPSP) warmly welcomes Zimbabwe's recent accession to the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT) and Acceptance of the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (ACPPNM).

In 2021 and 2022, PGA organized two African regional activities focused on Nuclear and Radiological Security, in which both Members of Parliament and the Director of the Radiological Protection Authority of Zimbabwe participated.

Shortly after the first activity, Zimbabwe acceded to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM).

Statement by Hon. Kindness Paradza, former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services of Zimbabwe, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Zimbabwe and past PGA Member on the occasions of the Acceptance by Zimbabwe of the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Accession by Zimbabwe to the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism.

September 29th, 2023, Harare, Zimbabwe

I was very pleased to learn today that the Government of Zimbabwe has deposited earlier this week its Instrument of Acceptance of the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material with the IAEA in Vienna and just yesterday its Instrument of Accession to the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism at the United Nations in New York. In this connection, Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Zimbabwe worked closely with PGA. I highly commend PGA's International Peace and Security Program, for its tireless work in the past few years, raising awareness among MPs and relevant government agencies alike, here in Zimbabwe surrounding the importance of both these vital international treaties, efforts which have now, gratifyingly, borne fruit.

PGA would like to express sincere gratitude to Global Affairs Canada for its kind support of PGA IPSP's Global Parliamentary Campaign to Promote Nuclear and Radiological Security.
