On 2 July 2020, the Chamber of Deputies of Chile unanimously approved a bill to implement the Biological Weapons Convention and Chemical Weapons Convention into domestic Law. The bill was approved with Senate amendments, and has now been sent to the Executive for promulgation. PGA was pleased to be informed of this significant development by Hon. Tucapel Jimenez.

Hon. Tucapel Jimenez organized and hosted the Regional Latin America Workshop to Promote Universality and Implementation of the BWC and UNSCR 1540 (2004) in Santiago de Chile in May 2017, supported by Global Affairs Canada.

Hon. Tucapel Jimenez subsequently effectively advocated for the transmission of this Bill from the relevant Government Ministry into the Chamber of Deputies in 2018 and substantively participated in deliberations thereon, including provision of certain drafting changes (in coordination with PGA) where were subsequently integrated in the second half of 2018.

The Bill has now been transmitted back to the Government for publication in the Official Journal.
