Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), a global network of over 1,300 committed Parliamentarians from 140 countries worldwide, is pleased to announce the launch of its Global Parliamentary Campaign in Support of the Negotiation of a Treaty Prohibiting Fully Autonomous Weapons thereby retaining meaningful human control over the use of force.
The global drift towards manufacture and usage of fully autonomous weapons poses a clear and present danger to humanity and life as we know it. PGA welcomes the important steps and initiatives taken so far to seek a ban on the manufacture and usage of such weapons by the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, a growing coalition of non-governmental organisations, Nobel Laureates, as well as many experts from the international Artificial Intelligence community who understand first-hand the extraordinary dangers posed by such weapons. Most UN member states participating in the diplomatic talks on fully autonomous weapons systems have expressed their strong desire to retain meaningful human control over the use of force, while 30 have explicitly called for the negotiation of a new treaty prohibiting fully autonomous weapons. PGA is pleased to be the only global parliamentary organization Member of The Campaign to Stop Killer Robots.
PGA calls on all Parliamentarians worldwide to sign the PGA Global Parliamentary Declaration in Support of the Negotiation of a Treaty Prohibiting Fully Autonomous Weapons. Parliamentarians can play a unique role, both as advocates and lawmakers, in encouraging relevant Government Ministries in their respective countries to consider the extraordinary risk fully autonomous weapons pose to human life and to galvanize support for a Treaty on the Prohibition of Fully Autonomous Weapons.
