Event: Regional Pacific Islands Workshop on Engaging Female Parliamentarians in Promoting Nuclear Security

Description: This 2-Day Regional Parliamentary Workshop will convene predominantly female legislators in the Pacific Islands region to raise awareness surrounding the importance of promoting nuclear and radiological security, including through adherence to relevant international treaties. The disproportionately adverse impact of the release of nuclear and radiological material on women will also be reviewed by a dedicated panel as well as a current reality where only approximately 20% of those employed in policy positions in the nuclear and radiological security sector worldwide are women.

Who can Attend: Experts from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as well as from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Pacific Island Forum will also be invited to attend. This event is by invitation only, targeting 5-6 Members of Parliament from 5-6 countries in the region.
