Working Party on Public International Law of the Council of the European Union

What is COJUR?

The Council of the European Union meets in different configurations depending on the topic discussed. Committees and working parties handle the preparatory work on files before they are discussed at Council meetings. The Working Party on Public International Law (COJUR) of the Council of the European Union deals with various public international law topics.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) subgroup is part of the COJUR working party. It focuses on cooperation and the exchange of information among member states in respect of the ICC. The subgroup also promotes member states' participation in the ICC and seeks to coordinate member states' approaches to various recurring issues about the ICC.

PGA’s Work

The Working Party regularly invites guest speakers such as court officials or speakers from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and informally meets with NGO representatives. PGA is regularly invited by the EU with other NGOs to provide briefings and analysis to, and share assessments of challenges and relevant updates on the fight against impunity with, EU Members States and relevant European institutions attending the COJUR.
